I don’t really listen to the radio much anymore. Okay, to be more specific – I don’t listen to the radio at all these days. This past year I’ve mostly been listening to post-rock/ambient stuff that noone else has heard of (except Tan), dubstep, and trance. None of those genres tend to feature on Triple J much anyway eh.
So there are a lot of bands in the Hot 100 this year that I know I’ve heard tracks from, but I don’t know the names of. There are bands that I probably should be including, previous faves of mine such as City and Colour, Beastie Boys, Gotye, Elbow, Justice, PNAU, TV on the Radio, among others (some of whom I did see live last year too) and if I’d given all their new stuff a proper listen to, my list might look somewhat different.
But here it is:
- Agnes Obel – Riverside
- Bon Iver – Perth
- Graveyard Train – Dead Folk Dance
- Jay-Z & Kanye West – Why I Love You
- Northeast Party House – Embezzler
- The Panics – Majesty
- Radiohead – Lotus Flower
- Sietta – No Longer Hurt
- Sietta – What Am I Supposed To Do?
- Skrillex – First of the Year (Equinox)
I highly recommend checking out local artists Sietta, The Panics, Graveyard Train and Northeast Party House, if you haven’t already.
And I’m not going to apologise for voting for Skrillex. I like that song!
