Banksia La Trobe Secondary College is almost gone

This is what Banksia La Trobe Secondary College looked like today:

My parents went to this school back in the 1960s when it was called Heidelberg High School.

My mum was sad when she saw my photos of the trashed interior.  She will probably be pretty sad when she sees the above photo.

Another abandoned Melbourne school

•February 5, 2014 • 3 Comments

I just love abandoned schools.  We visited one just before Christmas.  Demolition had already commenced, but the lovely old buildings were as yet untouched.

Bit of graffiti, bit trashed, but overall not too bad.  I picked up a sweet Genetics textbook too!  Genetics, my favourite.

Abandoned Melbourne market fun

•January 29, 2014 • 1 Comment

Andrew and I stopped by an abandoned Melbourne market today.  I scored a donut shop sign to add to my Klepto Kollection, but we resisted the many bottles of soft drink lying around (sorry Tan, didn’t bring you back any Pepsi).  It was pretty sweet and the building didn’t look very old at all.  The water is still on and the basement is flooding.  I didn’t take any photos because I’m an idiot who forgot to charge her camera battery, but here are a couple from Andrew starring moi.

Nom.

Nom.

Eat more donuts!

I have been a little AWOL.  This is my first post for this year.  What have I been up to?  Not a lot of shooting, or even wandering, of late.  Mostly just working a new job, hunting for a second job, being sick like a sick thing. and dealing with my crazy cat.

I did go to New Years on the Hill, which was a super-awesome small-scale music festival one of the best I’ve been to in Australia (on par with Boogie… the rest I’m not such a fan of).

I am trying to get out more, I swears it.  I post occasionally on my Instagram account, if you want to follow.  I have a few plans in the pipeline…

The little shoebox of Derby Street, Collingwood

•December 28, 2013 • 1 Comment

The itty-bitty house at 2 Derby Street, Collingwood, is for sale!

This house has been for lease more times than I can remember in the past 6 or 7 years, but you now have the chance to own it.

Less than half a mill – bargain!

It also comes with authentic “street art”!

Would you buy it?

Briggs gets a new tattoo

•December 20, 2013 • Leave a Comment

Caiti and I accompanied Briggs to D-Sharp Tattoos today to see him get Oscar the Grouch immortalised on his arm by Eyan.  Not the best day for it weather-wise – then again, a 40 degree day isn’t really the best day for anything.  Caiti was loving the heat though, that weirdo.  She was well-attired for a hot day in her BlackMilk swimmers though – now just need a pool.

Post-tattooing saw us at Little Tony’s Pizza in Clifton Hill for delicious pizza and pesto pasta.  Thumbs up.

Keep your eyes out for the Oscar tatt in the upcoming video for the ‘Let It Go’ collaboration between Briggs and Sietta.

The Empress is closed

Photo from musicfeeds.com.au

Long-time live music venue The Empress closed it’s doors indefinitely yesterday.

Personal reasons of the owner have been cited as the cause of the closure, though the Empress had faced noise complaints for a long time.

The closure follows the demise of another popular live music venue, The East Brunswick Club, back in March.

What’s in store for The Empress in the future… who knows?

Abandoned high school, Melbourne

•December 8, 2013 • 14 Comments

Awhile ago I posted a series of photos of me going about my daily tasks (completely accurate, by the way) entitled ‘A day in the life of little Kitten‘.

These were shot in an abandoned high school in Melbourne.  It’s been abandoned for awhile.  It also underwent several name changes whilst open.

My parents went to this high school together in the 60s.  My mum said she felt a bit sad when she saw photos of the remains of the school.

It further confirmed something that I have already previously confirmed (but good to know that I am still right, as always) – there is always a piano or organ in an abando.  Seriously.

PS. This is my 250th post!  Only took me four years!  Woohoo!

Tonight’s special – grilled kitten!

No, I didn’t put Ninja in the oven for photographic purposes.  He stands on his back legs, pulls the door down, and gets right in there.

Ninja is almost one year old now, and whilst he is still a naughty thing sometimes, he is pretty damn cute – he still sleeps curled up against me every night.  And sometimes on me whilst I read a book.

I don’t think I have posted anything about Ninja on this blog at all yet – I have had him since February, when he was eight weeks old.  I do spam my Instagram account quite frequently with pictures of him, though – #thecatnamedninja.

Wanderlust

•December 4, 2013 • 3 Comments

This past (slightly more than a) year that I have been back in Melbourne has been one of the worst of my life.  I seem to have lost all of my closest friends, found a job I loved and lost it two weeks later, am in so much financial debt (had to sell my DSLR to pay my rent and it didn’t even cover a month; woohoo), got addicted to depression/anxiety medication which I later ditched cold-turkey (withdrawals are joyous); amongst other things.  Writing this feels like I’m whinging.  Until a couple of weeks ago it felt like things were starting to look up, but eh, I dunno.  I am trying to focus on the positives but my crazy overactive brain doesn’t focus too well these days.  I just want to get the hell out of Fkn Melbz again…
